On your mark. Get set for the 2015 Reindeer Run presented by Gateway Bank of Florida! The Reindeer Run is one of Ocala’s oldest running traditions and this year the race will benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Marion County. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Marion County will host Fast Eddie’s 8 Ball Pool Tournament on November 8th at the Boys & Girls Club Dr. H.L. Harrell Unit at 800 SW 12th Avenue. The event is open to every boy or girl, age 18 and under that live in Marion County or that goes to school in Marion County. Admission is free.
The tournament will be a a double elimination, 8 ball tournament. Contestants may bring their own cue sticks, if desired. Otherwise cue sticks will be provided for everyone.
There are four categories:
- Boys, 18 and under
- Boys, 14 and under
- Girls, 18 and under
- and Girls, 14 and under
Trophies will be given to the winners of each category. Individuals can pre-register to play in the tournament or register the morning of the 8th at 9:00 a.m. The games begin at 10:00 am. The tournament got its name from Fast Eddie Folsom, a fictional character from the book and the movie “The Hustler,” about a man who wanted to prove he was the best pool player in this country. Paul Newman played the role of Fast Eddie in the movie. We encourage the kids of Marion County to strive to be the best they can, at pool and all the activities in which they participate.
Come support the Boys & Girls Clubs of Marion County (Silver Springs Shores Unit) with a tasty pancake breakfast on Saturday, February 22nd. This all-you-can-eat breakfast is just $4 and all proceeds benefit the kids. We’ll be serving continuously from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. at The Silver Springs Shores Presbyterian Church at 674 Silver Road. Take-out service will be available! Roc with the Docs is the annual dinner dance and premier fundraising event for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Marion County. An elegant evening of fine dining includes the fun of a silent and live auction followed by a night of dancing backed by an “all doc” band. The brainchild of Ocala neurologist (and club board member) Dr. Jay Rubin invites visitors to celebrate while supporting the kids who need us most. The 2014 event will be held Friday, February 7th at the Country Club of Ocala with drinks and a silent auction beginning at 6 p.m. Individual tickets are available at $125 and several levels of sponsorship are available and you may use the form below to register.

On Thursday, Dec. 19, First Avenue National Bank in Ocala will present the locally known and nationally acclaimed vocal group ” The Edge Effect ” for a Christmas concert and “Stuff the Sleigh” gift drive to benefit three local charities serving children – The Boys and Girls Clubs of Marion County, Florida, Kid’s Central and Kimberly’s Center for Child Protection.
There will be two concerts on December 19 at the Marion Theatre. The first will be at 6:30pm and the final performance will be at 9pm. Admission will be $10 and a new, unwrapped toy provided. “Gifts will be collected outside the theater on Magnolia Avenue. Having The Edge Effect in town for this concert is quite a treat for Ocala. With all the other great events planned downtown for the evening of Dec. 19, we hope to have a great response to the gift drive,” says Lombardo. “Ocala is a caring community and we are excited to see its generous spirit in action.”

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Marion County have done great things in our community this year by helping boys and girls find their self-worth and talents they never thought they possessed. With your help we can ensure continuing support for more than 1,000 children in Marion County. We need your help. We will be holding an event called DINING FOR SCHOLARSHIPS on December 10th and 11th at several participating restaurants in Ocala.
