State and local officials representing several branches of government visited the Boys & Girls Clubs of Marion County in September. The Legislative Day gave representatives the opportunity to see the club in action during a busy afternoon, with programs designed to help Ocala and Marion County kids to become productive, responsible and caring citizens.
Those attending the tour included congressional candidate Dr. Ted Yoho; Representatives Dennis Baxley, Clovis Watson Jr., Charles Van Zant and Marlene O’Toole; Senator Charlie Dean, Sr.; County Commissioners Charlie Stone,Kathy Bryant, Stan McClain and Carl Zalak III, Assistant City Manager Catherine Cameron; County Administrator Dr. Lee Niblock; Mayor Kent Guinn; City Council members Suzy Heinbockel and John McLeod; Police Chief Greg Graham; Lisa Rice of Marion County Community Services; Maureen Quinlan and Tina Banner of the United Way. From the Sheriff’s department, Lt. Ruanen Delarue, Sgt. Daniel Rosa, Chris Wells and David Westgate.
Club member Brianna Walcott gave officials a guided tour of the club and recounted how the club has provided her with leadership opportunities and a safe, caring environment.
Board Member Fred Roberts addressed the officials. “I was a member of the Boys & Girls Club of Marion County, but I had advantages most club members do not,” Roberts said. “Today is an opportunity to help our government officials see the difference the club is making in the lives of kids.”
